Naftogaz Ukrainy says collects $3.8 mln debts from Gazprom
KIEV, Nov 23 (PRIME) -- Ukrainian state energy holding Naftogaz Ukrainy has collected U.S. $3.8 million from Gazprom for natural gas transit in October as redemption of the Russian gas giant’s debt under the Stockholm arbitration court ruling, Naftogaz Ukrainy said in a statement on Friday.
Previously, Naftogaz Ukrainy used an $18.3 million overpayment for transit services to cover a part of Gazprom’s debt under the ruling.
“Taking into account that Gazprom refuses to fulfill the decision of the Stockholm arbitration court, Naftogaz will continue transferring overpayments for gas transit to redeem penalty fees accrued on Gazprom’s principal debt under the Stockholm arbitration ruling,” the company said.
The Stockholm arbitration court ruled in February that Gazprom must pay Naftogaz U.S. $2.56 billion for non-shipment of gas, but the Russian company appealed against the decision in March.
